Powering the Future Award
City of Sacramento • AMCAL • Coleraine Capital
This award is given to the person, persons and/or company who played the most significant role in changing the direction of the district by creating a vision to move the area forward. It could be given to a catalyst project, a significant investment to one of the Alliance’s key tenets.
City of Sacramento: In 2008, the Alliance and the City began work on a Specific Plan that would become the designated Sacramento Center for Innovation (SCI). That plan was ratified by City Council in 2013 and the City has been working with the Alliance and community leaders to bring its vision to life.
AMCAL: AMCAL, one of the nation’s most successful multi-family developers, understood the impact and opportunity in bringing The Crossings student housing project to life. AMCAL’s vast experience in quality design and construction, and their commitment to excellence makes them an ideal partner on this catalytic development within the SCI.
Coleraine Capital: Coleraine Capital was the initial real estate partner in identifying The Crossings site, near the Ramona Avenue road extension project. They saw the potential in creating a much-needed niche student housing project, with a focus on amenities and innovation.
Power Partner Award
PROCTER & GAMBLE
This award is given to the person, persons and/or company who played the most selfless role in assisting the Alliance and its stakeholders in one of the five core tenets of our mission.
At Procter & Gamble (P&G) innovation is their lifeblood, and the consumer is boss. By understanding consumers’ daily lives, P&G combines what’s needed with what’s possible. For more than 180 years, P&G has been doing the right thing by giving back to those in need. After a disaster, like the recent fires in Northern CA, P&G’s Disaster Relief Program helps affected communities by washing and drying clothes, and distributing personal care and cleaning kits with everyday essentials like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, and paper towels. P&G’s commitment is to help provide relief and restore a sense of normalcy to families affected by disasters. In addition, P&G is a partner on many facets of the Alliance community.
Tom Burruss Community Service Award
The Alliance’s Cannabis Planning and Business Development ad hoc subcommittee
This award is given to the person and/or persons who showed the highest level of dedication and commitment to community service and strengthening the Alliance District. The Alliance will give a $500 annual contribution in the award recipient’s name to the Fishing Derby Tom Burruss loved and generously supported for many years.
The Alliance created the Cannabis Planning & Business Development ad hoc subcommittee in 2017 to assist with smooth integration of the City’s newly permitted cannabis industry into the district. These four individuals worked tirelessly to understand this fledgling industry’s needs, took facility tours to see how these businesses operated, and met with applicants on a weekly basis to learn about their projects and to provide feedback and assistance.
Burnie Lenau: Owner of Lawnman, Inc., Burnie served as the ad hoc’s Chair. His background in agriculture, pesticide oversight, and water and wastewater issues were invaluable.
Dennis Shanahan: Owner of Shanahan’s Auto Body, Dennis provided significant expertise about regulatory compliance of odor control and other applicable needs.
Mike O’Brien: Project Executive/Partner of Mark III Construction, Mike served as the subcommittee’s electrical and HVAC expert and provided expertise on construction related issues.
Bernardo Hubbard: Senior Asset Manager of Jackson Properties, Bernardo served as the subcommittee’s real estate expert and was one of the lead voices for the Alliance when speaking with City Council and staff.
