Advocacy: The art of moving a cause, idea or policy
The Alliance attracts new and retains existing businesses and jobs by fostering a business-friendly environment.
The Alliance staff and ours members research, explore, and advocate on critical issues facing our area. We testify before City Council and various Commissions, send letters of support regarding business issues, and meet with elected officials at every level to shape policies on key area initiatives and to assist with development of sound policy to better the area.
Here are a few highlights from our advocacy platform:
- The Alliance held a Minimum Wage Forum for our members to learn about both sides of the issue. The Forum included Josh Wood, Executive Director of Region Business, Fabrizio Sasso, Executive Director, Sacramento Central Labor Council and was moderated by Dr. Rob Wassmer, former Chair of Public Policy Department, Sacramento State.
- The Alliance led a coalition of property owners, area business owners, civic leaders and other PBID staff to ask City Council for more involvement and transparency in relation to the proposed cannabis cultivation facilities ordinance. The Alliance served as a key voice in ensuring our area would be sitting at the table when the policies are being developed.
- The Alliance will host a Town Hall Forum for the City’s mayoral candidates. At this event, our business owners will have an opportunity to hear from Darrell Steinberg and Angelique Ashby on their vision for the City and how they would approach the leadership position at a critical junction in our area’s growth and development.
