Advocacy
Advocacy: The art of moving a cause, idea or policy
The Alliance attracts new and retains existing businesses and jobs by fostering a business-friendly environment.
The Alliance staff and our members research, explore, and advocate on critical issues facing our area. We testify before City Council and various Commissions, send letters of support regarding business issues, and meet with elected officials at every level to shape policies on key area initiatives and to assist with development of sound policy to better the area.
Here are a few highlights from our advocacy platform:
- The Alliance led a coalition of property owners, area business owners, civic leaders and other PBID staff to ask City Council for more involvement and transparency in relation to the proposed cannabis cultivation facilities ordinance and other important land use opportunities. The Alliance served as a key voice in ensuring our area would be sitting at the table when the policies are being developed.
- The Alliance hosts Town Hall Forums for relevant topics. At these events, our business owners have an opportunity to hear about how current issues could impact the area. Attending these forums gives our resident companies a voice in shaping our community.
- The Alliance participates in the Annual Metro Chamber Cap-to-Cap program, where more than 300 community and business leaders travel to Washington D.C. to advocate for our area’s most important issues.
